Park is situated near the intersection of 4 prefectures Tochigi, Niigata, Gunma and Fukushima. Idea to go there was not mine, Tokyo gajins club guys were planning to go. Because of mountains and current season colorful leafs were expected, and because of low accessibility and some required fitness it should be not so crowded. Weather forecast was saying about some clouds but low rain probability.
Trip was on Saturday of 3 days holiday and that was the cause of tortoise speed on highway. Somehow we left Tokyo and Saitama but lost 1 hour from the schedule. In the end road turned to mountain serpentine. While below mountains the nature did not look specially colorful near the top it noticeably changed. But together with that the weather changed to very cloudy like one huge cloud covered the top.
Whole walking way was on wooden roads, and that was not just for fun.
Weather was really looking autumn, but either it was too early or different plants, there was no much red leafs as I expected, but plenty of yellow leafs and yellow grass.
Well, Japanese nature is quite green whole year.
There are several yamagoya (mountain huts) in the park and because of its low accessibility their staff has to take it out on foot.
From the bus stop the way is going down but not so far.
We passed the first yamagoya. Here you can find food, toilet and place to sleep for fee or free.
Yamagoya was on marge, further the way goes through matches with reed, floodplains, marsh rivers going in loops.
The wooden road was going further and further. Sometimes it was even crowded, there were many old people groups and less families with children including babies.

Birch trees are not so seldom in Japan, but not so big as in Russia
There were some berries and something was even blooming
There was really swamp places, but generally it was covered with grass where you could walk with some care.
We stopped for lunch. I had my home obento and persimmons :)
Somewhere near that mountain there is another yamagoya.
Clouds briefly stepped aside.
Each road section had mark with year, some of them were since 2007. That's by the way is sadly known Tepko brand mark.
We reached our route finish and turned back with slight loop. Here it started raining
